ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Freshman Josh McRobie continued his impressive freshman campaign on Saturday as he helped Frostburg escape St. Mary's, 1-0, in CAC men's soccer action.
The Bobcats, winners of three straight, improve their overall record to 6-5 and 2-0 in league play.
Sitting at just 3-5 overall heading into last week's league opener against Wesley, Frostburg has gathered momentum over its last three games. The Bobcats have outscored their last three opponents, 10-1, and they are one of just two 2-0 teams in the CAC.
On Saturday, McRobie's scored an unassisted goal in the 26
th minute and the Bobcats held on for the win despite being outshot 14-7 in the game. It was McRobie's CAC-leading seventh goal of the season.
Senior keeper Hassan Mostafa finished with a season-high nine saves, including five in the first half. He immediately saw a flurry of action as he needed to stop two shots in the opening 3:16 of the first half. In the second he stopped back-to-back shots in the 72
nd and 74
th minutes to keep Frostburg ahead 1-0.
Aside from McRobie's goal, St. Mary's (7-2-1, 1-1 CAC) keeper Zack Haussler turned away Frostburg's only other shot on goal of the game, a sophomore Serigne Gueye attempt in the 15
th minute.
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they host Mary Washington at 6:00 pm.
