FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Rodrigo Valenzuela scored twice and added an assist as the Frostburg State men's soccer team charged past Wesley, 5-0, in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) divisional opener, Saturday night.
 
Sophomore Ernie Williams had two excellent opportunities in the first half to get Frostburg on the board, but was unable to convert on two separate crosses from freshman Josh McRobie.
 
The Bobcats broke the scoreless tie in the 37^th minute off a corner kick by freshman Ronnie Sotelo. Valenzuela was able to take the Sotelo pass and score on a header to give Frostburg a 1-0 lead.
 
Frostburg (4-5) held a 1-0 advantage going into the intermission and outshot Wesley (2-4-2) in the game, 12-5. After an evenly played first half, Frostburg begin to have its way offensively in the second half of play.
 
The Bobcats responded with another goal in the 74^th minute when sophomore Carvell Akuffo beat Wesley keeper Kyle Springsteen to make it 2-0. Valenzuela notched an asset on the Akuffo goal.
 
Valuenzuela would score his second goal of the night in the 75^th minute to give Frostburg a 3-0 lead.
 
Akuffo had another scoring chance in the 81^st minute that was deflected into the goal by Wesley's Jaki Farlow to give the Bobcats a commanding 4-0 edge.
 
Senior Anthony Depaz capped off the scoring in the 86^th minute when he scored off his own rebound to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead.
 
Senior keeper Hassan Mostafa made one save and earned the victory.
 
Frostburg will hit the road and travel to face Shenandoah on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7:00 p.m.
