FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 23 McDaniel, Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats (3-5) were outshot by the Green Terror (6-0, 1-0) 18-2, including 13-1 in the first half of play. FSU totaled five corner kicks to McDaniel's four, with all five happening in the second period.
The Green Terror capitalized on their first opportunity just 13 minutes into the game. Kirsten Gibson received a pass from 30 yards out and dribbled past two FSU defenders for a one-on-one with Bobcat keeper, senior Karen Belteton. Belteton made a diving effort for the save but it wasn't enough as the ball slipped past and McDaniel took a 1-0 lead.
FSU started to get things going on offense and senior Jessi Martz had the Bobcats lone shot of the half in the 33
rd minute of play. Martz's shot reached just high of the net.
McDaniel scored again at the 35:17 minute mark when Christina Wroblewski crossed a ball from the left side into the middle and connected with Katie Kirschenmann who drilled the shot into the left side of the net and gave the Green Terror a 2-0 advantage.
The Bobcat defense held McDaniel to only five shots in the second half of play. The Green Terror scored their third and final goal in the 68
th minute of the game when a pass from Kirsten Gibson connected with Wroblewski and inside of the net to make it a 3-0 game.
Junior Alyssa Malanik tried to get FSU on the board with a shot in the 83
rd minute, but the ball went just wide of the net.
Two Bobcat keepers saw time in goal, Belteton played the first 45:00 minutes and made three saves while sophomore Rhianna Lapen totaled one save in 45:00 minutes played. McDaniel keepers Sarah McDonald and Haley Jacobs split time in goal for the Green Terror.
FSU will open Capital Athletic Conference play Saturday, September 24 when they host Wesley at 2:00 pm.
