ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Junior Melanie Bell scored the Frostburg State soccer team's lone goal in its 2-1 defeat by Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's (Md.), on a wet Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (5-4, 2-0) handed the Bobcats their first CAC loss of the season moving them to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
St. Mary's outshot the Bocbats 16-7 and also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Both of the Seahawks goals came in the first half, with the first goal happening just 12 minutes into play. Seahawk Claire Kostelnik received a pass from Emily Huey and was able to slip a shot past Bobcat keeper sophomore Rhianna Lapen to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.
St. Mary's found the net again in the 32
nd minute of the half when Gillian Sawyer scored unassisted to give the Seahawks a 2-0 advantage going into the half.
The Bobcat offense got things going in the start of the second half; with Bell capitalizing on an opportunity five minutes into the half to get FSU on the board to make it a 2-1 game. This marks her second goal of the season.
The Bobcats could not find the net for the remaining minutes of half and ultimately fell, 2-1, to the Seahawks.
Lapen played all 90:00 minutes in net for the Bobcats and notched eight saves. Seahawk keeper Sydney Larkin saw 90:00 minutes in goal and tallied three saves.

th for a game set to start at 4:00 PM.
