CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg field hockey team coasted to its fourth-straight win on Wednesday with a 2-0 decision over Wilson.
The Bobcats improved their record to 5-2 overall with the victory over the Phoenix, who fell to 2-2 on the season.
During the current four-game winning streak, Frostburg has outscored its opponents 24-1 and is outshooting its opponents by an impressive 132-10 margin.
Even more impressively, four out of the five Frostburg wins this fall have come via shutout as its first win of the season was a 4-0 blanking of Randolph-Macon in the first game the 2016 FSU Tournament. FSU's other shutout wins have come against Hood (5-0) and Virginia Wesleyan (4-0).
Frostburg outshot Wilson 6-0 in the first half this evening and sophomore Molly Pickard handed the Bobcats their first goal of the contest. Pickard took a pass from the right side of the field from sophomore Lindsay Gardiner and knocked her shot into the left side of the cage at 21:21.
The game remained just 1-0 in favor of FSU until the 56
th minute (55:59) when sophomore Holly Van Wie gathered a ball in front of the cage and knocked her attempt into the left side for a 2-0 cushion.
Frostburg held a 9-2 edge in shots during the second stanza and the Bobcat defense allowed just two shots from Wilson all game.
Senior keeper Jacqueline Gover saved the first shot from the Phoenix on the night en route to her fifth win of the campaign. Wilson keeper Kayla Butts did her part to keep Frostburg's goal total at two as she stopped seven shots.
Frostburg hosts Bridgewater (Va.) this Saturday at Bobcat Stadium at 11:00 am.
