WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Frostburg State soccer team fell to Lycoming, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
A late penalty kick goal from Lycoming's Abdullahi Abdi lifted the Warriors (4-2-2) over the Bobcats (3-5) in the 85
th minute of regulation, and was ultimately the deciding factor in the 2-1 victory for Lycoming.
The first half of the game proved to be an evenly matched battle, each team firing off five shots, however, the score remaining, 0-0, at the half way mark. The Bobcats created several scoring opportunities in the first half, including back-to-back shots by freshmen Mitchell Love and Josh McRobie that were saved by the Lycoming keeper at the 24:51 and 35:08 minute marks.
Lycoming held the advantage in shots in the second half of play, 12-3, and got onto the board first in the 63
rd minute of play. The Warriors Steven Riad scored on breakaway into the left side of the net from a through pass from teammate Jordan Logan.
However, the Bobcats rallied back to score only eight minutes later, when sophomore Kelvin Tata connected on a penalty kick that knotted the game, 1-1 in the 68
th minute.
The Warriors outshot the Bobcats, 6-0, throughout the remaining minutes of the period and ultimately won the game off the penalty kick goal from Abdi.
FSU keeper senior Hassan Mostafa made eight saves in all 90:00 minutes played while the Warriors keeper Josh Gildea notched three saves in 90:00 minutes played.
The Bobcats will open their CAC schedule at home Saturday, September 24 when they face conference foe Wesley at 4:30 PM at Bobcat Stadium.
