WASHINGTON, Pa. – Freshman forward Josh McRobie scored twice and added an assist as the Frostburg State Bobcats defeated Washington & Jefferson, 6-1, Saturday afternoon.
The victory moves Frostburg to 3-4 and drops Washington & Jefferson to 2-2-1 on the season.
Frostburg finished the match with a 12-8 advantage in shots, including eight on goal.
The Bobcats netted a season-high six goals in its first victory on the road this year.
Sophomore Kelvin Tata broke the scoreless tie in the 12
th minute, tapping in a cross from McRobie in the center of the box to give Frostburg a 1-0 lead.
Washington & Jefferson would tie the game in the in the 15
th minute on a penalty kick off the foot of Matt Prezioso.
Frostburg then used an offensive surge in the second half take control of the game, scoring five unanswered goals to close out the match.
Sophomore Ernie Williams gathered in a turnover and gave Frostburg a 2-1 lead in the 56
th minute.
McRobie would cushion the Frostburg lead with two goals in the 67
th and 74
th minutes. On the first goal, McRobie chipped the ball over the head of the keeper and just inside the right post. A few minutes later, McRobie and Williams worked a give-and-go to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.
McRobie's second goal of the game was his CAC-leading sixth goal of the year. He also leads the conference with 13 points on the season.
Frostburg would put two more goals on the board to close out the afternoon. The Bobcats took a 5-1 lead in the 79
th minute, when a crossing pass was knocked in by a W&J defender.
Senior Nabayee Tesfu scored the Bobcats' sixth goal of the day in the 87
th minute. Tesfu made a move on a breakaway and scored his first goal of the year.
Senior keeper Hassan Mostafa got the win, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves.
Frostburg continues play on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 20, to face Lycoming at 4:00 p.m.
