OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Freshman Brooke Shehade scored Frostburg's only goal of the evening as the women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 match to Stevenson, Friday night.
The Mustangs (2-3) jumped out to a 2-0 cushion, including a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Shehade's goal came in the 86
th minute as she cut the Bobcat deficit to 2-1. Unfortunately, Frostburg was unable to get another shot off as the final horn sounded.
Frostburg was outshot 21-11, but wasn't without opportunities to score. Shehade had a close shot blocked in the 22
nd minute and sophomore Melissa Krofcheck had a shot saved just two minutes prior to Shehade's attempt.
In the 65
th minute, sophomore Anais Ventura had a shot from inside the 18 turned away as well by Stevenson keeper Tiffany McKee.
Stevenson, which led 8-1 in corner kicks, had goals from Kailee Ziegler in the 43
rd minute and Brittney Celano in the 56
th minute.
FSU senior keeper Karen Belteton notched five saves in the opening half, while sophomore Rhianna Lapen finished with three.
Frostburg returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts McDaniel at 7:00 pm.
