Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal Lifts Bobcats to 1-0 Victory Over Penn State Altoona

FROTSBURG, Md. – Sophomore Carvell Akuffo jammed home a rebound and scored the lone goal of the evening in the 80th minute to give the Frostburg State men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Penn State Altoona Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats move to 2-4 overall, while the Lions drop to 3-2 on the season.

Both teams traded scoring chances throughout much of the game. Following a shot off the foot of Akuffo and a corner kick attempt by senior Hendrik de Wit, Penn State Altoona had an opportunity in the 9th minute when Matthew Hibbs hit the post.

Penn State Altoona hit the post yet again in the 51st minute after Jordan Crist gained separation and got the ball toward the cage.

Frostburg went on an offensive surge late in the second half, with shots by sophomores Brett Basham and Ernie Williams that were saved by Penn State Altoona goalie Liam Grady.

Frostburg outshot the Lions, 14-11, and held the edge in corner kicks, 2-1. On the lone Frostburg goal, Akuffo was able to corral the ball in traffic and fire home a shot to the left corner of the net.

Senior goalie Hassan Mostafa had three saves on the night and earned the victory.

Frostburg will return to the pitch against Washington & Jefferson on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2:00 p.m.
