FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore Lindsay Gardiner and freshman Abigail Levesque each scored twice to lead the Frostburg State women's field hockey team to its largest goal differential since last September in a 5-0 victory over Hood Wednesday afternoon.
Frostburg (2-2) had the advantages in shots over Hood (1-3), 37-0, and in penalty corners, 18-1.
Gardiner opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 13
th minute, which proved to be the game-winner. The Bobcats doubled the lead to 2-0 in 24
th minute on a goal by Levesque. Sophomore Cara Morrell earned the assist on Levesque's first goal of the afternoon.
Frostburg scored three more times in the second half. Senior Jacquelyn Nava scored in the 46
th minute of action which gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead. Nava finished the afternoon with a game-high seven shots for Frostburg.
Levesque scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 53
rd minute to give Frostburg a 4-0 lead followed by a Gardiner goal in the 63
rd minute.
Junior Elizabeth Davis and sophomore Holly Van Wie earned assists on the final two tallies of the game.
Senior goalie Jacqueline Gover earned the victory after playing just over 47 minutes. Hood keeper Hailey Poisal made 22 saves on the day.
Frostburg also had an impressive effort last year against Hood, outscoring the Blazers 7-0 in a game on Sept. 16, 2015.
Frostburg will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 12:00 p.m. against Virginia Wesleyan.
