Field Hockey Earns Shutout Victory Over Virginia Wesleyan

NORFOLK, Va. – Frostburg State scored three first half goals en route to a 4-0 shutout victory on the road against Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bobcats improve to 3-2 overall, while the Marlins fall to 2-3 on the year.
 
Sophomore Lindsay Gardiner scored a goal at the 1:41 mark to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 advantage.
 
Frostburg's took a 2-0 lead on a goal from freshman Megan Hughes, who scored her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke at 9:16 in the first half.
 
Sophomore Erin Barker gave Frostburg a 3-0 lead nearly 15 minutes later with a goal at 24:37 in the first half. Junior Ivy Meissner earned an assist on the Barker goal.
 
A pair of seniors combined for the final tally of the afternoon at 62:57 when Taylor Bowen made a pass to Jacquelyn Nava, who scored to give Frostburg a 4-0 lead.
 
Frostburg outshout Virginia Wesleyan, 22-7, including 14 shots in the first half. The Bobcats had six penalty corners in the match.
 
Senior goalie Jaqueline Gover made five saves in just over 60 minutes of action and earned her third win of the season.
 
Frostburg will take the field again on Monday, Sept. 19 hosting Notre Dame (Md.) at 7:00 p.m.
