Bobcats Drop Tournament Championship Match

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team lost a slim 1-0 match to Delaware Valley, Sunday in the championship game of the 2016 FSU Tournament.

DVC (2-3) scored the game's only goal but the Bobcats held much of the momentum offensively.

FSU (1-2) led in shots (10-5) and penalty corners (13-4) and had several chances late in the contest to even the score.

Carlie Baldus slipped a shot into the left side of the net off a pass from the end line from Cecilia Lounsberry in the 54th minute for the Aggie lead.

Over the closing 16:38, Frostburg had six penalty corners and a shot from sophomore Molly Pickard at 61:46 got past Delaware Valley keeper Rosie Bishop, but was saved from going in the net by Mackenzie Harper.

Another great opportunity for Frostburg came just minutes into the second half. Senior Taylor Bowen started a break away for the Bobcats at midfield and raced towards the Aggie goal.

Bowen flipped a pass forward to sophomore Holly Van Wie that continued the surge towards the goal, but Van Wie's shot sailed just right of the net.

In the first half, the Bobcats had eight shots, including a run of five-consecutive attempts in the opening minutes of the game.

Bishop finished with four saves in the opening frame to keep the score at 0-0 at intermission.

Senior keeper Jacqueline Gover finished the afternoon with two saves, while Pickard, Van Wie, senior Jacquelyn Nava and freshman Megan Hughes finished with two shots apiece.

The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they host Hood at 4:00 pm.
