FROSTBURG, Md. – Four runs over the final two innings of play proved to be the difference as 17
th-ranked Frostburg State collected an 8-4 victory over visiting Pitt-Greensburg on senior day, Saturday.
The Bobcats reached the 30-win plateau for the second-straight season and third time under head coach Guy Robertson and the '16 senior class played a significant role in the victory.
FSU improves to 30-10 overall on the season with its fifth-consecutive win.
Three seniors pitched for the Bobcats on the afternoon and three different seniors each drove in a run.
Senior Logan Hunt got the start on the mound and tossed 3.1 innings with three strikeouts, but didn't factor in the decision. Senior Kyle McCormack was credited with the win after throwing 2.1 innings and surrendering just one run and two hits.
Senior Nick Huff moved into second in Division III and broke the Capital Athletic Conference saves record with his 12
th of the season after tossing the final 1.2 innings with just one hit allowed.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Jeremy Remalia singled home junior Cody Harman for a 5-4 Frostburg lead.
In the eighth, senior Zach Keeler drew a bases loaded walk that scored senior Jamaal Windom for a 6-4 advantage. Junior Devin Bell scored on a wild pitch and senior Vince Foreman singled home junior Brad Garrant for the game's final run and the 8-4 victory.
Garrant led the way with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Remalia finished with two hits and an RBI, Keeler drove in one and scored once, while Bell and Harman each scored twice.
Pitt-Greensburg (22-17) scored the game's first two runs, one each in the first and second innings for a quick 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats rebounded in the fourth with three runs for a 3-2 edge. Garrant doubled home Bell, senior Connor Cooper brought home Garrant with a sacrifice fly and Harman scored on a fielding error on the UPG infield.
An RBI ground out in the fifth evened things at 3-3 for Pitt-Greensburg before Frostburg surged ahead in the bottom of the frame when Keeler scored on an error by the infield.
A run-producing sacrifice bunt in the sixth evened things again, this time at 4-4, before FSU scored the final four runs in the seventh and eighth for the win.
Frostburg wraps up its regular season tomorrow when it plays a pair of games at La Roche. The Bobcats play host La Roche at 11:00 am and Otterbein at 2:00 pm.
