FROSTBURG, Md. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced their 2015-16 Academic All-District II men's and women's track & field/cross country teams on Thursday and a trio of Frostburg student-athletes appeared on the teams.
Junior thrower JR Lowery and sophomore high jumper Collin Schultz garnered the honors on the Bobcat men's team, while sophomore sprinter Kayla Truesdel took home honors for the women.
Lowery carries a 3.38 grade point average and majors in both sociology and law & society. He is a two-time Dean's List student, a two-time CAC All-Academic selection and a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic team honoree.
Lowery will represent Frostburg this weekend at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the shot put (Friday, 3:00 pm) and the hammer throw (Saturday, 2:30 pm). Last weekend, Lowery captured his second-consecutive ECAC Outdoor Championship in the shot put (16.89 meters) and he finished third in the hammer throw behind a school-record 55.51 meters.
Lowery enters the NCAAs ranked fourth in the nation in the shot put and 16
th in the hammer. He has toppled seven school records this spring and captured CAC Titles in both the shot and hammer.
Schultz finished his '16 season ranked fifth in the Mideast Region in the high jump after posting a career-best 1.96 meters at the ECAC Championships last weekend. His height earned him 10
th place.
In the classroom, Schultz boasts a 3.91 GPA and majors in law & society. He is a four-time Dean's List student and a 2014-15 CAC All-Academic honoree.
Truesdel has a perfect academic record while at Frostburg as she carries a 4.0 GPA while majoring in exercise & sport science. She is a four-time Dean's List student and was named to the 2014-15 CAC All-Academic team.
On the track, Truesdel captured a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend at the ECAC Championships. She earned seventh place in both the 100 (12.25) and 200-meter dashes (25.40).
She capped her sophomore season ranked fourth in the region in the 100 (12.19) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.05). She set both times at the SRU Last Chance Meet at Slippery Rock in early May.
Truesdel earned Second Team All-CAC honors after taking second place in the 100 (12.37) at the league championships in late April.
All three Bobcat student-athletes captured USTFCCCA All-Region honors earlier this week.
The District 2 track & field/cross country team consists of schools from Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
To be eligible for the COSIDA Academic All-America and All-District programs, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
The CoSIDA Academic All-American teams will be released in late June.
