SALISBURY, Md. – Despite leading 5-3 in the second quarter, the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team fell at No. 1 Salisbury in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals, 14-6.
Sophomore Adam Gross and senior Nick Stailey tallied two goals each, while senior goalkeeper Tom Kraemer had 10 saves in the loss.
Both of Gross' goals came in the first quarter, opening the game with an unassisted mark 3:26 into the game. Salisbury (18-0) answered back seven seconds later, but senior Erik Geiser found Stailey six seconds after that to give the Bobcats (15-4) their first lead of the game.
Nathan Blondino added an equalizer for the Sea Gulls, but Gross and senior Blake Grudzien had back-to-back goals to keep FSU ahead, 4-2, after the first quarter.
Salisbury opened the second quarter with a tally from Thomas Cirillo, but Frostburg kept the pressure on the Sea Gull defense as senior Tate Rolland found the back of the net for a 5-3 Bobcat lead.
Carson Kalama had two-straight tallies to end the quarter and knot the game at 5-5.
Salisbury then used a 9-1 rally in the second half to win, 14-6. Stailey had the Bobcats' only goal of the second half.
Geiser finished 11-of-19 on face-offs, scooped up six ground balls and added an assist. Rolland finished with one goal and one assist.
Kalama led the Sea Gulls with five goals and an assist, while Blondino finished with one goal and four assists. Colin Reymann finished the day with 10 saves in the crease for Salisbury.
The Bobcats currently await a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
