Baseball Drops Single Game To Marymount

FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite a late, four-run comeback, the Frostburg State baseball team dropped a 6-4 ballgame to Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Marymount (Va.), Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats (19-8, 11-5 CAC) used one run in the sixth inning and two-runs in the bottom of the eighth in an attempt to run down Marymount (19-15, 11-6) but it wasn't enough to overcome the Saint's six-run lead.

At the plate, senior KJ Hockaday finished the day 2-for-4 with one RBI. Senior Connor Cooper (1-for-3) had two RBI for FSU.

Sophomore Lane Ward threw for 4.1 innings, stuckout three batters and suffered his second loss of the season. Senior Kyle McCormack struckout one in 2.2 innings pitched while sophomore Garrett Wiles closed out the game with one strikeout in 2.0 innings pitched.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Marymount's Luke Tyree scored off a sacrifice fly from Lorenzo Calderon.

Marymount then made it a 3-0 game when Tyree hit a two-run single RBI in the fourth inning to score teammates, Roy Coates and Stephen Berczek.

The Saints extended their lead in the sixth inning when Calderon singled to score Coates followed by Connor Hall scoring off a fielding error by the Bobcat short stop.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hockaday hit a single up the middle to score senior Jammal Windom and make it 6-1 ball game.

With the bases loaded, senior Zach Keeler walked to bring junior JT Tipton across home plate and give the Bobcats their second run. FSU completed the eighth inning with a two-run single from Cooper to bring in two more runners and give FSU its fourth and final run of the game.

Marymount's Charlie DiGiulian pitched 6.0 innings and struck out four. He was also credited with the win. Ben Berczek pitched the final two innings for the Saints and earned the save.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow for a single-game against Shenandoah at 4:00 pm.
