FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite a second half rally, the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team fell to No. 19 Christopher Newport, 16-5, in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Junior Megan Hart led the Bobcats (4-5, 0-3 CAC) with two goals, one in each half, while FSU also had goals from junior Emani Byrd, sophomore Courtney Ridenour, and junior Alyssa Barlow.
The difference proved to be at the eight-meter line where CNU (8-1, 3-0 CAC) was 5-of-8, while the Bobcats were just 2-of-8. FSU held its own, however, picking up just two less ground balls than the Captains (13-11) and turning the ball over just once more than the visitors (14-13).
Christopher Newport opened up with four-straight goals before Hart took advantage of a Captain foul and scored from the eight-meter line to close the deficit to 4-1. Christopher Newport then went on a 7-0 run to lead 11-1 at halftime.
Hart then notched the first goal of the second half, unassisted, but CNU had three of the next four to stay ahead 14-3.
Junior Alyssa Barlow and Byrd then traded back-and-forth goals with CNU, but the Captains walked away with a 16-5 win at the final horn.
Junior goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum finished with 11 saves and two ground balls in the cage for the Bobcats.
Emma Walsh finished with seven saves for the Captains and shared time in the crease with Hannah Slough.
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, March 30 when they play host to Thiel. Opening draw is slated for 4:00 pm. Fans can follow all of the action live at www.FrostburgSports.com/Live.
