#11 Bobcats Split With #10 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 11 Frostburg State baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 10 Salisbury, Saturday morning. The Bobcats won the first game, 4-3, before dropping the second game, 8-4.

FSU (9-6, 3-3 CAC) scored two runs late in the ninth inning off a Salisbury error by second base to gain a one run edge over the Sea Gulls (10-5, 5-1 CAC) to earn the victory in game one.

The Bobcats got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning when junior Cody Harman hit a RBI single to center field to score senior KJ Hockaday.

The Sea Gulls used two-run home run by Tyler Hrycak in the fifth inning to take the lead over FSU. However, a home run by junior Brad Garrant in the top of the sixth knotted the game, 2-2.

Salisbury's Hrycak hit a RBI single in the eighth to give the Sea Gulls the lead again, but FSU scored two runners in the ninth inning from a Salisbury error to ultimately win the game.

Sophomore Greg Schneider threw for 7.0 innings and struckout 13, allowing only two runs. Junior Jake Stephens pitched one inning for the Bobcats and earned the win while senior Nick Huff was credited with his first save of the season and struckout two.  

Garrant (1-for-4) had a RBI and a home run and Harman finished 1-for-3 with a RBI.
 
Salisbury's Ian Scheidemann pitched 7.0 innings and struckout eight. Hrycak (2-for-4) finished the game with a homerun and three RBI.

Salisbury used a big second inning to jump out to a three-run lead over the Bobcats in game two. With the bases loaded, Jack Barry walked to score Jake Dmiterchik. A Bobcat fielding error gave Salisbury two more unearned runs to go up 3-0.
 
In the fifth inning, sophomore Chad Wein smashed a two-run homerun for FSU to close in on the Sea Gull lead. However, with runners on first and third, Salisbury's Hrycak homered to left field to score three more runs in the seventh inning.
 
The Bobcats scored again in the top of the eighth when a Sea Gull error by third base allowed junior JT Tipton to advance to home and bring the score within three. Salisbury used two runs in the bottom of the eighth to increase their lead by five.
 
Senior Zach Keeler hit a RBI single down the left field line to score Garrant, however it wasn't enough as Salisbury earned the victory.
 
Junior Ryan Callahan pitched 5.2 innings for FSU and suffered his first loss of the season. Freshman Blake Clift, sophomore Tyler Hoffman and senior Logan Hunt also saw time in the circle for the Bobcats.

At the plate, senior Jamaal Windom went 3-for-4, Keeler (2-for-4) had a RBI while Wein (1-for-3) finished with a home run and two RBI.
 
Salisbury's Jeff Oster threw for 5.0 innings and struck out five while Connor Reeves was credited with the save. At the plate, Hrycak (1-for-4) finished with a homerun and three RBI and Dmiterchik (2-for-3) had a double and a RBI.
 
The Bobcats will return home for a game against York (Pa.) Wednesday, March 23. The opening pitch is set to start at 3 pm.
