CLERMONT, Fla. – On the final day of the NTC Spring Break Games, the Frostburg State softball team finished with an 8-0 shutout over Westfield State. Earlier in the day, the Bobcats dropped a close decision to Wisconsin-River Falls, 4-3.
The Falcons (7-11) jumped out to an early lead over the Bobcats (10-6), hitting two RBI in the first inning to get onto the board first.
However, a Falcon error in the second inning scored senior Renay Aubel and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Allison Short scored senior Taylor Blevins to knot the ball game, 2-2.
Wisconsin-River Falls scored two more runs in the third inning off an error from right field to take the lead.
In the fifth inning, Aubel hit a RBI single into right field to score freshman Olivia Ford, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons ultimately took the victory.
Aubel finished the game going 1-for-2 with one RBI, while junior Emily Zengel went 1-for-2 with a RBI.
On the mound, Short threw for 4.1 innings and had five strikeouts. Junior Carlie Lewis and freshman Ali Caulkins also saw time in the circle.

In game two, FSU posted its fourth shutout of the season in six innings, while junior Hannah Tavik pitched her seventh winning game in a row over Westfield State. Tavik threw five strikeouts and only allowed three hits in 6.0 innings pitched.
The Bobcats took the lead early on and remained in control for the entire ball game. In the first inning, Aubel hit a RBI double to left center to score junior Jessica Dubbs. Blevins followed with a sacrifice fly to score Tavik and increase the lead by two.
To round out the first inning, senior Lauren Capece hit a two-run double to bring in Caulkins and Aubel.
Capece hit a RBI single in the third inning to score Blevins. In the fifth inning, Dubbs walked with the bases loaded to give the Bobcats their sixth run.
In the sixth inning, Zengel singled and Aubel scored off an Owl throwing error. Capece ultimately sealed the FSU victory when she hit a RBI single to bring in the eighth runner of the game.
At the plate, Capece finished the game going 3-for-3 with four RBI and a double. Blevins went 3-for-3 with a RBI while Dubbs finished 2-for-3 with a RBI.
FSU will return home from Florida to host its home-opener Saturday, March 26 against Penn State-Harrisburg. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 pm.
