Softball Earns Two More Wins

CLERMONT, Fla. – Frostburg softball plated a total of 15 runs in a pair of wins, Wednesday, over Western New England and Bates.
 
The Bobcats (8-4) opened the day with a 7-2 victory over Western New England and played to a five-inning shutout of Bates, 8-0 in the nightcap.
 
Sophomore Allison Short struckout three and allowed just two earned runs as she picked up her third win of the spring.
 
After Frostburg scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, the Golden Bears answered with two runs in the bottom of the second for the lead. Senior Renay Aubel singled home junior Emily Zengel for Frostburg's first inning score.
 
FSU took the lead for good in the fourth. Aubel led off the inning with a homer to left center and junior Jessica Dubbs doubled down the left field line that scored both senior Lauren Capece and sophomore Rae Harrison.
 
In the seventh, junior Hannah Tavik singled home Dubbs and sophomore Sam Gatton before Capece closed the scoring with an RBI single that plated junior Megan Tracey.
 
In the second game, the Bobcats used a six-run fourth inning to end the game in six innings.
 
Aubel singled home Zengel for the game's first run in the third before Frostburg scored six runs on one hit in the fourth.
 
Zengel opened the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center, Capece drew a bases loaded walk and freshman Ali Caulkins drove in two more with a single. Capece scored on Caulkins single after a throwing error on the Bates outfield.
 
In the sixth, Gatton ended the game early with a walk-off single to left field that plated Caulkins for the 8-0 final.
 
Tavik struckout seven in 6.0 innings of work for her fifth victory (5-1).
 
At the plate, Tavik combined to finish 4-for-7 on the day with two RBI and a run scored, while Aubel was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Capece drove in a run and scored a run in each game.
 
FSU returns to action tomorrow when it plays William Paterson (1pm) and Agnes Scott (3pm).
