Big First Half Carries Women’s Lacrosse

LATROBE, Pa. – Frostburg State scored 12 first-half goals en route to a 19-8 victory over Saint Vincent, Wednesday.
 
Junior Logan Brady led the way with an impressive seven points behind five goals and two assists, while junior Taylor Mone contributed two goals and three assists. A day after posting a career-best 17 saves for a win over Shenandoah, junior keeper Dylan Teitelbaum needed to stop just two shots for the victory. Brady led Frostburg with four draw controls, while junior Alyssa Barlow paced the team with five ground balls.
 
In total, 11 different players registered a point for the Bobcats in the rout as they led by seven at halftime, 12-5, and by as many as 12, 19-7, just before the final horn.
 
Junior Megan Hart added three goals on just three shots, while junior Molly Hart, sophomore Courtney Ridenour and freshman Morgan Cavey each scored twice. Sophomore Tara Whitney added a goal and an assist.
 
Frostburg didn't just dominate on the scoreboard, but led the Bearcats (0-6) in shots (34-10) ground balls (27-21), draw controls (15-13) and were a perfect 13-of-13 on clear attempts.
 
FSU jumped out to a 3-0 cushion and never looked back. Mone connected on a goal from Brady just 28 seconds into the first half, Brady then scored herself just over two minutes into action and Megan Hart scored on a free position at 23:56.
 
Later in the opening half, the Bobcats collected a pair of three-goal runs as they surged to an 11-4 lead. Ridenour (15:01), junior Haley Hines (13:39) and Mone scored during the first 3-0 surge, while Cavey (7:34), Molly Hart and Brady (6:13) found the net for Frostburg on the second 3-0 spurt.
 
Whitney put the exclamation point on the opening period with an unassisted goal with 20 seconds left for a 12-5 advantage at intermission.
 
Cavey opened action in the second half with a score just under seven minutes into play and FSU later collected a 5-0 run. Brady highlighted the scoring jolt with three goals that helped push Frostburg's lead to 19-7.
 
Maggie Nelson closed the contest with the final goal with just three seconds to play. Hannah Carroll led Saint Vincent with three goals and one assist.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Mary Washington at 3:00 pm.
