FROSTBURG, Md. – Four Bobcats contributed double-digit points, but it wasn't enough as the Frostburg State women's basketball team suffered a 70-59 loss to CAC opponent Penn State Harrisburg, Wednesday evening.
Junior Kirsten Rayner led the Bobcats with 13 points and eight rebounds, followed closely behind classmate Kache Fields with 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior Courtney Young put up 11 points and freshman Bryce Papp totaled 10.
The Bobcats gave up six points to start the first quarter, but stormed back with a layup from Young and three-pointer from freshman Megan Kelly to put five on the board. Junior Keri Hudson rounded out the first quarter with a three-pointer for FSU but the Bobcats still trailed, 19-10, at the end of the first.
FSU went on a 5-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to cut the Lion's lead to five points. Papp made a layup and a three-point shot while Fields put in a jumper to bring the score to 24-19 at the six minute mark.
Fields made another jumper followed by two made free throws for Young to close out the half, however Penn State Harrisburg led by seven at the end of the second.
The Bobcats exchanged points back-and-forth throughout the third period, and two made free throws from Kelly brought the Bobcats within four but the Lions went a four-point run to close out the third quarter and go up, 52-44.
FSU stormed into the fourth quarter with jumpers from Rayner and Young and a layup from Papp to cut the Lion lead to only three points. The rest of the quarter remained close, however the Lions pulled ahead in the final seconds of the game to get the victory.
The Bobcats will return to Bobcat Arena for a CAC matchup against St. Mary's (Md.), Saturday, February 6. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
