Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rayner Posts 20 In Loss To York (Pa.)

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Kirsten Rayner put up 20 points but it wasn't enough as the Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped a 71-49 decision to York (Pa.), Wednesday evening.

In the last home game of the season, the Bobcats (3-21, 0-17 CAC) struggled to get past the York (18-6, 12-5) defense and could not find the net as the Spartan offense took control of the game from the beginning.

York led by five early in the first quarter, but a three-pointer from Hudson brought the game back within two. Hudson also went a perfect 4-for-4 in free throws during the quarter to keep the Bobcats in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Spartans went on a late eight-point run to gain a healthy lead over FSU as time expired in the first.

The Spartans gained as much as a 13 point advantage in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but back-to-back layups from Rayner and a layup from freshman Megan Kelly cut the York lead to 11.

Freshman Bryce Papp made a three-pointer with one minute remaining in the second quarter, however the Bobcats trailed, 38-24, going into halftime.

The Spartans took control in the third quarter, holding the Bobcats to just six points and extending their lead to 23 points.

Rayner posted 13 of her 20 points for the Bobcats in the fourth quarter, behind five layups, a jumper and a made free-throw. Papp also made her second three-pointer of the game but FSU could not overcome the Spartans as they walked away with the victory.

FSU's Hudson posted nine points while Papp contributed eight. Junior Kache Fields grabbed six rebounds.

Sarah Shearer posted 20 points for York and her teammate Katie McGowan contributed 10. Sam Hruz had six blocks for the Spartans.

The Frostburg State women's basketball team will end its regular season when they travel to Salisbury Saturday, February 20. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
