Women’s Basketball Uses Balanced Scoring Attack in 79-63 Win

FROSTBURG, Md. – Four players reached double figures in scoring, including junior guard Sharyce Warren's game-high 21 points as the Frostburg State women's basketball team won a 79-63 decision over Penn State Harrisburg in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play.

In addition to her 21 points, Warren dished out four assists, collected two rebounds and added six steals.
 
Frostburg (3-6, 1-2) picked up its first win of the season in conference play, shooting 49.2% (29-59) from the field and 44.4% (8-18) from three-point range. Penn State Harrisburg (1-6, 0-3) shot 38.5% (25-65) from the field and was paced in scoring by Kaitlyn Carmo, who tallied 19 points for the Lions.
 
Sophomore guard Victoria Diggs started the game in a flurry, scoring the first 10 points of the game for the Bobcats, including two three-pointers.
 
The Bobcats outscored Penn State Harrisburg 22-13 in the second quarter and took a 37-29 lead into the locker room at the half. The Bobcats' largest lead of the night was 17 points.
 
Senior forward Kirsten Rayner notched another double-double, her third of the season, with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rayner overcame a slow start offensively and scored all of her points in the second half, including multiple free throws which helped seal the game.
 
As a team, the Bobcats shot 13-of-22 (59.1%) from the charity stripe.
 
Freshman forward Amanda Emory also collected a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Emory, who finished 2-of-4 on three-pointers, hit a three with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter to give the Bobcats an eight-point lead and make the score 51-43.
 
Senior guard Kache Fields and junior forward Alexis Welch each scored six points, and freshman guard Victoria Yoder added two points.
 
In addition to the balanced offensive output, the Bobcats' shared the ball extremely well, collecting 18 assists on the night compared to the Lions' 10. Frostburg closed the game on a 9-2 run and outscored the Lions 21-11 in the final quarter of play.
 
Frostburg returns to the court this Sunday, December 11 for a road contest against Wesley. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
