SALEM, Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team suffered an 83-63 loss to Anderson (Ind.), Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Cregger Tournament at Roanoke College.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-9 overall this season and will face the Coast Guard Academy tomorrow at 11:00 am in the consolation game.
The Ravens improved to 6-4 on the season behind 45.9 percent shooting from the floor (29-of-61). Anderson also knocked down six three-pointers and was 21-of-30 from the foul line.
Junior Tyler Michael was FSU's leading scoring for the ninth time this season with 19 points. Sophomore Edwin Cole notched his third double-double of the season and third in the last five contests with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Just before the Holiday break, Cole registered 17 points and seven rebounds in Frostburg's exhibition against VMI.
Juniors Darren Campbell and Chris Coston rounded out Frostburg players in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
As a team, the Bobcats shot 36.4 percent (24-of-66) from the field and outrebounded Anderson, 43-42. The game featured three lead changes and three ties.
Trevor Lucas led the Ravens in scoring with 27 points followed by Cole Hartman with 16.
Michael and Campbell handed the Bobcats a pair of early leads before a 10-0 run by Anderson gave it a 16-6 lead six-and-a-half minutes into action. The Ravens pushed their advantage to 12, but moments later, Michael hit a layup at 8:05 to cut the deficit to 24-17.
Frostburg further cut into the Raven lead when Rashad Johnson connected on a layup with 5:12 to play to cut the score to six, 32-26.
Anderson pushed its lead to 43-30 at halftime.
In the second half, Coston and Cole combined for six-straight points in under a two-minute span to pull FSU to within seven at 45-38.
However, Anderson scored the next five points and pushed its lead back to 12. It led by as many as 22 points in the waning minutes before winning by 20.
