DOVER, Del. – Sophomore Victoria Diggs tied a school record with seven three-pointers and the Frostburg women's basketball team closed out the 2016 portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon with a come-from-behind 72-65 win over Wesley in CAC action.
The Bobcats improve to 4-6 overall on the season and even their league record at 2-2.
The win over the Wolverines (5-3, 1-2) is the second-straight conference win for Frostburg and is the third-straight overall victory.
The current three-game winning streak started last Monday with a 90-79 win over Penn State Altoona and continued on Wednesday with a 79-63 win over Penn State Harrisburg.
During the streak, FSU has averaged 80.3 points per game, while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor. The Bobcats have also drained 23 three-pointers.
Against Wesley, Frostburg trailed following three quarters of play before outscoring the hosts 21-13 in the final stanza.
Senior Kirsten Rayner hit a jumper with 8:22 left in the game to give the Bobcats their first lead of the fourth, 55-54, and moments later, junior Sharyce Warren hit a free throw for a 60-59 lead.
Freshman Amanda Emory knocked down a jumper at 3:48 to increase FSU's advantage to 64-59.
Wesley cut its deficit to one point on two occasions, including with 1:02 to play, but Frostburg hit 6-of-8 foul shots inside the final minute to seal the win. Sophomore Victoria Diggs and senior Kache Fields each made two free throws inside the final 10 seconds.
Diggs finished with a game and season-high 34 points on 12-of-17 shooting, including seven three-pointers (7-of-9).
It's the most points in a game for a Bobcat since late in the 2015 season and her seven three-pointers mark just the third time in program history that a player has connected on seven in a contest. She also shot 77.7 percent from behind the arc, the third-best mark in program history.
Emory and Warren came off the bench to finish with 11 and 10, respectively, and they powered a Bobcat bench that outscored Wesley 23-3.
In the first half, Frostburg jumped out to a big lead in the opening four minutes as freshman Sydney Stotler hit layup for a 12-2 lead. The Bobcats led 15-10 after the first, but Wesley carried a 33-29 lead into intermission with a 23-14 scoring edge in the second.
At halftime, Diggs had 17 points and was a perfect 5-of-5 from three-pointer range. She made three three-pointers over a three-minute stretch in the second quarter to help FSU trail by just four at the break.
The Wolverines finished with four starters in double figures led by 16 points from both Tiyanna Gibbs and Alexus Stroud.
The contest featured four ties and 10 lead changes.
Frostburg returns to the court on Monday, January 2 at 3:00 pm.
