Bobcats Drop Narrow Contest To Waynesburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team endured a narrow one-point loss to Waynesburg, 67-66, at Bobcat Arena Tuesday night.
 
The Bobcats fall to 1-3 with the loss, while the Yellow Jackets even their overall record at 1-1.
 
Frostburg led by as many as 16 points, 54-38, with 7:48 to show in the second half following back-to-back made free throws from sophomore Edwin Cole.
 
FSU turned a 33-33 tie with 15:16 left into that 16-point cushion behind a quick 7-0 spurt and a 12-3 run moments later.
 
Sophomore Zachary Coalmon hit a layup to start the 7-0 run, while freshman Rhashad Johnson knocked down a pair of foul shots that capped it.
 
Junior Christopher Coston started the 12-3 run with a jumper at 11:12 before Cole's foul shots gave the Bobcats the 54-38 advantage.
 
A traditional three-point play from Coston on a layup and free throw with 4:50 showing handed Frostburg its final double-digit lead of the ballgame at 61-49.
 
Waynesburg quickly answered over the next 2:24 with a 10-0 run that cut the deficit to just two, 61-59.
 
Junior Tyler Michael connected on a layup with 2:11 left in regulation and the Yellow Jackets answered with two-consecutive three-pointers for a 65-63 lead.
 
Late in the game, Michael narrowed the deficit with a free throw with 15 seconds left and a Frostburg shot at the buzzer was off the mark setting the final at 67-66.

Waynesburg hit a three-pointer with 6:38 to play in the opening stanza for a 22-15 edge before Frostburg closed out the half on a small 8-2 run to trail by just one. 24-23 at intermission.
 
Michael again led Frostburg with 15 points, while Coston added 12. Freshman Lawrence Pettis, Jr. scored 10.
 
Jon Knab led Waynesburg with 15 points, while Christian Koroly added 14.
 
Frostburg returns to action next Tuesday when it hosts Washington at 5:30 pm.
