Women’s Basketball Drops Season Opener at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Senior forward Kirsten Rayner scored a game-high 18 points and junior guard Alexis Welch added 11 points, but the Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season with a 70-61 loss to Waynesburg Tuesday evening.
 
Rayner and Warren combined for 29 points accounting for 47 percent of the Bobcat (0-1) total.  
 
Junior guard Sharyce Warren was the third Bobcat player to reach double-figures. She scored 10 points and added a team-high five steals in 21 minutes.
 
Welch had a team-high three assists, while freshman Amanda Emory snared six rebounds.
 
Frostburg had 18 second chance points and collected 20 points off turnovers.
 
The Bobcats went on a seven-point run in the third quarter to cut the Waynesburg lead back to single-digits when sophomore Victoria Diggs knocked down a three-pointer and Rayner added two layups.
 
Frostburg outscored the Yellow jackets (1-0), 36-30, in the second half of play.
 
In all, 11 Bobcats saw the floor for at least five minutes. Rayner logged 36 minutes, while sophomore guard Megan Kelly chipped in seven points in 29 minutes.
 
Frostburg is back in action this weekend, hosting the annual Jim Crawley Tournament at Bobcat Arena. The Bobcats will begin the tournament Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff against York (N.Y).
