Bobcat Men Earn Fifth Seed

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg men's soccer team capped its regular season with a 2-1 win over Southern Virginia on Wednesday night and the Bobcats wrapped up the fifth seed in the upcoming 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
Frostburg will open tournament play this Saturday at fourth-seeded Penn State Harrisburg at 2:00 pm.
 
The Bobcats enter the CAC Tournament with an 8-9-1 overall record and an even 4-4-1 slate in the conference. Freshman Josh McRobie paces Frostburg in scoring with seven goals and two assists, while junior Rodrigo Valenzuela is second behind five goals and one assist.
 
On the defensive end, Frostburg is limiting opponents to a 1.26 goals against average and five shutouts. Two-time First Team All-CAC keeper Hassan Mostafa enters the tournament for the final time and he currently paces the league with 80 saves.
 
Penn State Harrisburg carries an 11-7 overall record into the tournament and a 5-4 mark against league opponents. However, the Lions have lost three-straight matches after winning five-straight to open the month of October.
 
Jonathan Majin leads the way with 20 points on seven goals and six assists, while Victor Weaver has found the net five times and handed out eight assists. In goal, Brandon Hoover has made 59 saves and holds a 1.24 GAA.
 
During the regular season, Frostburg and Harrisburg met on Oct. 19 and the Bobcats took home a 2-1 victory at PSH. Sophomore Carvell Akuffo scored the Bobcats' two goals. Manny Little scored the game's first goal for a 1-0 halftime lead for the Lions before Akuffo answered with goals in the 51st and 81st minutes.

Christopher Newport captured the tournament's top seed after cruising to an 8-0-1 league mark and a 15-2-1 overall record. Mary Washington is the second seed after an 8-1 conference record and a 13-3 overall record. Both teams have earned a first-round bye and will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
 
Finishing third in the CAC regular-season standings was St. Mary's (Md.) with a 12-3-2 record and a 6-2-1 CAC record.
 
Penn State Harrisburg and Frostburg occupy the fourth and fifth seeds and York (Pa.) is the sixth seed (7-8-2, 4-4-1).
 
The Spartans visit St. Mary's on Saturday at 2:00 pm and the winner will advance to face Mary Washington, while the winner of Harrisburg and Frostburg will visit CNU.
 
York and St. Mary's met yesterday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams and the Seahawks earned a 2-1 win.
 
The winner of the 2016 CAC Tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
