FROSTBURG, Md. – A second half scoring outburst mixed with some stifling defensive play helped the Frostburg State women's soccer team earn a 3-0 victory over Marymount University in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play on a brisk Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium.
Head coach Brian Parker notched his 200
th victory at the helm of the FSU women's soccer program with the win.
Frostburg (9-8, 6-2) has also won four-straight games, with all of those victories coming via shutout. The Bobcats are outscoring opponents, 9-0, over that span.
FSU held a 20-8 advantage in shots over Marymount (7-8, 2-6), and a 15-7 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore forward Haley Dalphon got the scoring started in the 53
rd minute, after she took a pass from freshman Brooke Shehade in the middle of the box and fired a shot past a diving Sydney Schultz which gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Shehade doubled the Bobcats lead to 2-0 around five minutes later when she stole a ball from a Marymount defender and placed a shot to the right corner of the net.
Sophomore Danielle Ferris would head home the final Bobcat goal of the evening off a corner kick from freshman Gwen Schemm in the 86
th minute to give Frostburg a 3-0 edge.
Senior keeper Karen Belteton didn't allow a goal and made two saves for her second win of the year.
Frostburg recognized the senior class of Belteton, Kelsi Folch and Jessi Martz in a ceremony held on the field prior to the start of the match.
This recent four-game surge puts Frostburg into third place in the CAC standings. Frostburg has one game left in its regular-season slate against Southern Virginia on Oct. 26 at Bobcat Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
With a win against Southern Virginia and a St. Mary's (Md.) loss or draw to York (Pa.), the Bobcats will capture second place and a first-round bye in the upcoming CAC Tournament.
