Bobcats Suffer Narrow Home Loss

FROSTBURG, Md. – Marymount University was awarded a pair of penalty kicks and converted both en route to a narrow 2-1 win over Frostburg, Saturday night at a windy Bobcat Stadium.
 
Senior Nebayee Tesfu gave the Bobcats (7-9-1, 3-4-1 CAC) an early lead with his second goal of the year. He corralled a loose ball on the end line and flicked a high arching shot into the back of the net from a tough angle for a 1-0 cushion.
 
Marymount (4-10-2, 2-6 CAC) answered with back-to-back penalty kicks in the first half for a 2-1 lead.
 
Ahmed El-Manialawy connected on the first PK at 18:56 that tied the game at 1-1. The second goal on a PK came with no time left on the first half clock. Play was stopped for a foul on Frostburg and Rodney Ngoh knocked home the second PK for a 2-1 halftime lead.
 
Inside the first 10 minutes in the second half, Marymount was handed a red card and played with one less field player for the remainder of the game.
 
Frostburg tried to take advantage with 10 shots following the card.
 
Tesfu (64:04) and freshman Josh McRobie (75:31) had shots from inside the box sail high of the cage, while junior Rodrigo Valenzuela had two shots saved by MU keeper John Valcicak.
 
Frostburg's final attempt of the game came in the 89th minute when freshman Ernie Williams' shot was denied by Valcicak.
 
The Bobcats outshot the Saints 18-7 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
In goal, senior Hassan Mostafa made just one save, while Valcicak stopped five shots.
 
Following the Marymount result, Frostburg is in sixth place in the CAC standings with one match remaining, a road contest at Southern Virginia on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
