Field Hockey Slips To No. 3 Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team slipped to Capital Athletic Conference foe, No. 3 Salisbury, 2-0, on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

Despite the loss, the Bobcats (5-9, 0-4 CAC) put forth an impressive effort on defense, holding nationally-ranked Salisbury to only two goals and 15 shots. Previously, the No. 3 Sea Gulls held 4.6 goals per game average, good for first in the CAC and third in the country. SU previously held 23.3 shots per game average until FSU held them to just 15 today.

The Bobcats are also the first conference team to hold Salisbury to less than six goals in a game and join No. 1 Messiah and Catholic as the only teams that have held Salisbury to two or less goals this season.

Senior goal keeper Jacqueline Gover served as a significant part of the Bobcat defense, as she made seven saves on the day.

Salisbury outshot the Bobcats 15-0, earning a goal in each half of the contest.

The Sea Gulls first goal of the game came in the 7th minute when SU's Hannah Miller made a pass from 30 yards out to teammate Natalie Wilkinson. Wilkinson was able to tap the ball into the cage past Gover.

Salisbury scored again in the 53rd minute of play when a cross from Paige Twilley-Webster found Rachel Domanico, Domanico shot the ball past Gover into the right side of the cage.

FSU moved the ball down the field several times in the second half; however the Salisbury defense prevented the Bobcats from reaching the goal.

Next up, the Bobcats will take a break from conference play as they travel to Juniata, Wednesday September 19th for a mid-week match set to start at 7:00 PM.
