WINCHESTER, Va. – The Frostburg State field hockey team dropped a 3-0 non-league contest to Shenandoah, Thursday afternoon.
Senior Jacqueline Gover notched a pair of saves and sophomore Molly Pickard led the Bobcats with two shots in the defeat.
The loss drops FSU to 5-9 overall on the season, while the Hornets improve to 8-6.
Gover made back-to-back saves at 3:58 and 4:05 in the first half to keep SU off the scoreboard. At 23:49, the Hornets got on the board when Katelyn Curtis found Morgan Payne for a 1-0 cushion.
Just before the half, Bobcat sophomore Holly Van Wie had a shot saved by Hornet keeper Jessica Brown to keep the score at 1-0 at intermission.
Junior Elizabeth Davis attempted Frostburg's first shot of the second half at 40:33, but SU answered when Elizabeth Pardo made it 2-0 with a goal six minutes later.
With four seconds remaining in the contest, the Hornets added a final goal when Taylor Hayes connected with Melissa DeiTos for the 3-0 final.
Shenandoah outshot Frostburg 11-6, including a 6-3 edge in the second half.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they host third-ranked Salisbury at 12:00 pm.
