Bobcats Suffer Loss At UMW

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Frostburg State suffered an 85-71 loss at Mary Washington on Wednesday night in CAC men's basketball action.
 
Senior Nick Smoot led the Bobcats (6-11, 4-6) in scoring with 15 points behind four three-pointers, while sophomore Tyler Michael added 14 points, his fifth-consecutive game with 10 or more.
 
Senior Shawn Henson contributed 11 points and freshman Edwin Cole scored a career-high 10 points. Henson also led the Bobcats with eight rebounds.
 
Despite the loss, Frostburg and Mary Washington (8-9, 4-6) were nearly even from the floor. Both teams finished with 25 baskets and FSU held a slim 9-7 advantage in three-pointers.
 
However, the difference came at the free throw line where the host Eagles finished 28-of-35 (80%), while FSU finished just 12-of-20 (60%).
 
Frostburg trailed by 19, 47-28, at intermission and was able to slowly chip away at the Mary Washington lead for much of the second half.
 
The Bobcats outscored UMW 43-38 in the second stanza despite Mary Washington pushing its lead to 31 points in the opening minutes. Frostburg rebounded inside the final 10 minutes of action and cut the deficit to 13, 82-69, on a layup from Henson with 1:37 to play. Henson added the contest's final basket with 32 seconds showing.
 
TJ Jones led the hosts with 19 points behind 13-of-15 foul shots. Eric Shaw and Mark Madison each added 18 points.
 
Frostburg travels to Marymount this Saturday for a 4:00 pm contest.
