FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped a 74-24 decision to Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington, Saturday afternoon.
Senior Courtney Young led the Bobcat offense scoring 11 points with 10 rebounds followed by freshman Megan Kelly who contributed six points.
Mary Washington (8-2, 3-1 CAC), who is receiving votes in the USA Today coaches poll, jumped out to an early lead, scoring four unanswered points in the first minutes of the game. The Bobcats (2-8, 0-4 CAC) scored two points in the eighth minute off a jumper from Young to make the game 2-4.
The Eagles surged ahead to end the first quarter with a 20 point lead.
Young went 3-for-3 on free throws and made a jumper in the second while Kelly made a three-pointer in the sixth minute. However the Eagles continued to extend their lead, ending the half ahead, 42-10.
Kelly made her second three-pointer of the game in the remaining two minutes of the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats fell to Mary Washington.
Mary Washington's Brianne Comden scored 16 points for the Eagle's while her teammate McKenzie Jenkins contributed 14.
The Bobcats will return to the court Wednesday, January 6 when they host Marymount (Va.) for a game set to start at 6:00 pm.
