Bobcats Fall to Wesley

DOVER, Del. – Despite Junior Kirsten Rayner's seventh double-double of the season, the Frostburg State women's basketball team suffered a 80-54 loss to Wesley, Saturday afternoon.

Rayner put up 13 points and had 10 rebounds against the Wolverines while junior Keri Hudson posted a season-high 14 points for the Bobcats.

Wesley (4-11, 3-5 CAC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven unanswered points before senior Courtney Young made a layup followed by a jump shot to put the Bobcats (2-12, 0-8 CAC) on the board.

Hudson made two three-pointers in the first quarter to bring the Bobcats within two points of the Wolverines, including a three-point shot to end the first quarter, 15-17.

The Bobcats gained a three point lead early in the second quarter, going up 22-19 in the seventh minute. A three-pointer from Hudson followed by a layup from freshman Megan Kelly surged the Bobcats to their only lead of the game.

FSU played the Wolverines close throughout the rest of the second quarter, exchanging points back-and-forth before a three-pointer by Wesley's Brittney Kerns and a jump shot by Adriane Fraser gave the Wolverines a five-point edge over the Bobcats going into halftime.

Sophomore Adjowa Pinkrah opened up the second half with a jump shot to bring the game within three, before the Wolverines broke open the lead, scoring 13 unanswered points to go up, 50-34, in the third quarter.

Senior Courtney Young made a three-pointer followed by a layup for Rayner as the Bobcats tried to close in on the Wolverines; however, it wasn't enough as Wesley continued to power past FSU for the victory.

Wesley's Brionna Johnson put up 28 points while her teammate Tiyanna Gibbs scored 20 for the Wolverines.

The Bobcats return home Monday, January 18 for a game against Penn State-Altoona set to begin at 6:00 pm.
