Bobcats Roll Past Centenary 7-0

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored five goals in the second half en route to a 7-0 defeat of Centenary in the first game of the 2015 FSU Tournament, Saturday afternoon.

Bobcat head coach Keith Byrnes and his staff focused on offense during its offseason recruiting and the Bobcats delivered just that against the Cyclones (0-2).

Frostburg (2-0) led 2-0 at the half, but exploded for five goals over the final 30 minutes of play. The win was the second shutout of the season for the Bobcats, but it was the offensive outburst that provided the excitement.

Saturday's contest against Centenary marks the first time the Bobcats have scored seven goals in a game since a 7-1 victory over D'Youville in October 2009. The seven-goal differential is also the largest for FSU since shutting out Pitt-Bradford 7-0 in September 2008.

An impressive seven different Bobcats scored in the win over Centenary, while junior Nabayee Tesfu and freshman Guy Nabo scored one goal and added one assist. Sophomore Erik Casterline opened the scoring with a pretty diving header that found the net at 9:00.

Aside from the seven goals, the second shutout marks the fourth-consecutive year that Frostburg has opened the season with back-to-back shutouts

Frostburg outshot the Cyclones 23-4 and held a 5-1 lead in corner kicks. Junior keeper Hassan Mostafa needed to make just one save for the win. Freshman Carlos Caro played the final 18:24 in relief of Mostafa.

Jesse Goleman made four saves but endured the loss for Centenary.

Frostburg will play Bridgewater tomorrow on the second day of the FSU Tournament at 3:30 pm, while Centenary will play Juniata at 1:00 pm.
