ARLINGTON, Va. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team defeated the Marymount Saints 2-1 in its Capital Athletic Conference season opener, Saturday night.
The Saints (4-5, 0-1) jumped out to an early lead, when a Frostburg State (6-2, 1-0) foul led to a penalty kick in the 29
th minute. Marymount's Ahmed El-manialawy took the kick and found the net to put Marymount up 1-0.
Marymount outshot the Bobcats in the first half, 8-4, however junior keeper Hassan Mostafa made three saves on the half and kept FSU in the game.
The Bobcat offense kicked into high-gear in the second half, outshooting the Saints 12-2. Freshman Kelvin Tata put points on the board for Frostburg five minutes into the second half, when he scored unassisted in the 50
th minute to tie the game 1-1.
Frostburg State scored its final and game-winning goal at the 61:53 mark, when freshman Hunter Jarmon passed to teammate freshman Guy Nabo who drilled one into the net to push the Bobcats to a 2-1 victory.
The Saints goalkeeper Logan Cropper made five saves on the night while FSU's Mostafa finished the game with three saves and walked away with the win.
Frostburg State will return to action October 1 when they travel to Penn State Altoona for a game at 7 pm.
