Men's Soccer Suffers Close Defeat At Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Frostburg State men's soccer fell to Hood College in a 2-1 decision, Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats (5-2) and the Blazers (7-2) played a close offensive battle during the first half of the game, with FSU producing 11 shots and Hood taking 12 shots.

Hood scored early in the game, at the 5:38 mark when Juliano Pillari took a corner kick, which was headed by teammate Matt Viti and then knocked in for a goal by Drew Demich.

However, the Bobcats answered less than two minutes later when freshman Guy Nabo shed his defender to drill in a goal to the far post unassisted. Nabo scored Frostburg's only goal of the game and was his fifth goal of the season.

The Blazers scored the final goal of the game in the 22nd minute of the first half, when Pillari passed a ball across the field to teammate Robert Ellerson who found the back of the net, to push the Blazers to a 2-1 advantage over the Bobcats.

Frostburg knocked in a goal in the 87th minute to potentially tie the game, 2-2, however it was called offsides, and the final remained 2-1 in favor of Hood.

The second half of the game produced no goals and both the Bobcats and the Blazers defense stepped up and only allowed eight shots total between the two teams.

Frostburg State's junior Hassan Mostafa made seven saves on the night while Hood College goalkeeper Joe Centeno made three saves and walked away with the win.

FSU will kick off CAC play Saturday, Sept. 26 when they travel to Marymount for a game at 7:30 pm.
