Bobcats Shutout Bethany In Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout of Bethany (W.Va.), Wednesday, in the season opener for both schools.

Frostburg tallied a goal in each half for the win, but it was business as usual for the Bobcat defense as it posted its third-consecutive regular-season shutout dating back to the final two games of the 2014 season.

FSU outshot the visiting Bison 15-8 and junior keeper Hassan Mostafa made four saves for the win.

An own goal in the ninth minute of the first half handed the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Freshman Kelvin Tata crossed a pass from the end line that ricocheted off a defender and into the open net.

Mostafa helped keep the 1-0 edge at halftime with a punching, one-handed save at 28:00 and a diving save with 8:44 left until halftime. He finished the half with three saves.

In the second stanza, freshman Guy Nabo pushed the lead to 2-0 with a hard shot into the bottom left corner of the goal past a diving Bethany keeper.

Mostafa made his fourth and final save in the opening minutes of the second, another diving stop that thwarted a Bethany attempt.

Bethany's Callum Appleby stopped seven shots in the loss.

Frostburg returns to the field this weekend when it hosts Centenary in the first game of the FSU Tournament at 4:30 pm on Saturday. Fans can follow all of the action through live video and live stats at www.FrostburgSports.com/Live.
