Volleyball Downs W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball team won its second-straight match, defeating Washington and Jefferson, 3-0, Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats (4-6 overall) held the advantage over the Presidents (3-3 overall) in kills (48-26), service aces (5-4), assists (47-26) and digs (66-59).

In the middle of the first set, the Bobcats caught fire and took off on a 12-2 streak and lead the charge to take the first set, 25-10.

The second set featured 12 ties before FSU broke out to score eight-straight points en route to a 25-20 win.

The final set was much the same, with back-and-forth scoring throughout. Down 14-12, the Bobcats came back with a 5-1 run to take the lead and never relinquish it, winning 25-22.

Sophomore Naya Cheatem (18) and senior Aimee Petrides (15) led the game in kills and Petrides added two blocks en route to FSU's second victory in as many matches. Sophomore Madelyn Torres finished the day with 43 assists, while sophomore Lidnsey Scepura led the Bobcats with 24 digs.

Frostburg returns to action in its home-opener on Saturday, September 19 when the face St. Vincent at 11:00 a.m. and La Roche at 1:00 p.m. Fans can follow all of the action through live video and live stats at www.FrostburgSports.com/Live.
