FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team posted its third-consecutive victory, Sunday, following a 6-1 defeat of Eastern Mennonite.
The Bobcats scored three goals in each half en route to their 3-2 overall record this fall. The loss drops the Royals to 0-4.
The Bobcats are gaining momentum during the streak having outscored their three opponents 15-3. Frostburg has also increased its scoring in every game since being shutout in its season opener. FSU has posted four, five and six goals, respectively in each of its last three contests.
Senior Alexandra Darrow has powered the Bobcat attack during the streak as well, having scored seven goals and handed out two assists. After registering her second career hat trick on Sunday, she followed it up with two goals on Sunday in the win over EMU.
While Darrow scored twice, Best led the way in points with two goals and one assist.
Darrow scored twice in the first half (8:15 & 14:05) and Best found the net at 12:23 to hand Frostburg a 3-1 edge at intermission.
Freshman Samantha Schaffer scored for the third-straight game when she opened the second half with a tally in the 44
th minute. Schaffer started each of the last three games during her scoring streak.
Best added her second goal of the afternoon at 68:44 and less than a minute later, junior Jacquelyn Nava scored for the first time this season to hand the Bobcats a 6-1 win.
Freshmen Lindsay Gardiner (12:23), Molly Pickard (68:44) and Ashleigh Myers (69:32) handed out assists in Sunday's win.
Junior keeper Jackie Gover needed just one save for the win in nearly 46 minutes of action. Sophomore Nicole Leighty relieved Gover and played the final 24 minutes of the contest.
Megan Bishop scored in the 27
th minute for Eastern Mennonite off a pass from Brianna Kauffman. Hannah Daley notched 10 saves in the loss.
Frostburg travels to Hood on Wednesday for a 4:30 pm game.
