Field Hockey Wins Fifth Straight

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University field hockey team powered past Wilson College to earn its fifth-straight win, Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcat offense dominated today against the Wilson Phoenix, outshooting them 11-0 in the first half of the game.  However, the Phoenix defense held strong the first half and kept the score 0-0, with Wilson goalkeeper Kayla Butts making five saves on the half.

Frostburg maintained a strong offensive presence during the second half, finding the cage twice. The first Bobcat goal came in the 52nd minute of the game when junior Taylor Bowen found senior Alexandra Darrow who drilled one past the goalkeeper for a goal. This marks the fifth straight game Darrow has scored for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats did not let up, and freshman Samantha Schaffer dribbled down the field past defenders to fire one into the cage unassisted at the 66:10 mark to score Frostburg's final goal of the afternoon.

While the Bobcats outshot the Phoenix 14-3 in the second half, Wilson managed to get one past FSU in the 69th minute when Lauren Moss scored their only goal unassisted.

Wilson goalkeeper Kayla Butts made eight saves on the day, while Frostburg State sophomore Nicole Leighty made one save and walked away with the 2-1 win.

Frostburg State field hockey returns to play Wednesday, Sept. 23 when they face Washington & Jefferson at home at 7pm.
