FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Alexandra Darrow scored three times and the Frostburg State field hockey team dropped Virginia Wesleyan at Bobcat Stadium, Saturday, 5-0.
After failing to find the net in their first game of the season, the Bobcats (2-2) seemingly have found their rhythm since then, increasing their goal total in each of the last three games.
The 5-0 blanking of the Marlins (1-3) came in large part thanks to Darrow's second career hat trick for the Bobcats. She also added an assist to her three-goal tally.
Frostburg jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes of the opening half and never backed off.
Three different players scored in the opening stanza, while freshman Samantha Schaffer opened action in the 6
th minute with her first collegiate goal off a pass from Darrow.
Frostburg made it 2-0 at 11:40 when senior Jackie Best found the net off an assist from senior Ashley Johnson.
Less than three minutes later, Best found Darrow for her first goal of the afternoon and the Bobcats' third goal and for a 3-0 cushion at halftime.
The Best/Darrow connection happened again 5:40 into second-half action that made the count 4-0. Darrow's final score of the game came off a pass from freshman Holly Van Wie in the 62
nd minute. It was Van Wie's first collegiate point.
Bobcat keeper Jackie Gover notched four saves in the shutout win, while Marlin netminder Skye Swain totaled 11 saves in the loss.
Frostburg hosts Eastern Mennonite tomorrow afternoon at Bobcat Stadium at 12:30 pm. Fans can follow all of the action through live video and live stats at www.FrostburgSports.com/Live.
