WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball team took three sets in a non-conference matchup at Waynesburg to pick up its first victory of the season, Tuesday night.
In game one, Frostburg rebounded from a 12-10 deficit for a 25-20 win, thanks to an 8-1 run in the middle part of the set that helped the Bobcats take a 19-14 edge. In the second set, FSU dominated, winning 25-7, after racing out to a 12-1 lead.
The Bobcats closed out the evening with another impressive game, this time 25-10, for the 3-0 match win. In the third set, Frostburg scored eight consecutive points to lead by 10, 20-10, before cruising to the victory.
Frostburg hit an impressive .305 for the match, following a .385 hitting percentage in the second set and .455 in the third. The Bobcats rounded out the set with 11 kills in the third game to complete the dominating sweep over the Yellow Jackets.
Sophomore Naya Cheatem led the Bobcats offensively with 10 kills, while senior Aimee Petrides had eight. Defensively, sophomore Megan Wentz finished with 13 digs while sophomore Lindsey Scepura and senior Caitlyn Collins had eight and six, respectively.
FSU returns to action Friday, September 4 as they travel to Latrobe, Pa. for the Saint Vincent Tournament. FSU will square off with Muskingum at 5:00 pm, followed by a matchup against Franciscan at 9:00 pm.
