BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior Chris Rios scored four first-half goals to help lift the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team to a 11-2 win over Bridgewater, Tuesday.
The 19
th-ranked Bobcats, who jumped into the USILA Coaches Poll yesterday afternoon, pushed their overall record to 12-0 with their fifth road win of the season.
Frostburg dominated the Eagles (4-7) in just about every major statistical category, including shots (43-23), faceoffs won (13-3) and ground balls (34-16). The Bobcats also caused 12 of Bridgewater's 18 turnovers.
Rios became the fourth different player to lead the team in scoring over the last four games and he did it with a big first half. He connected on two first-quarter goals to give Frostburg an early 2-0 lead. His first came from senior Devin Colegrove just 44 seconds into action.
Bridgewater scored its first goal late in the first quarter, but Rios answered with his third early in the second quarter from senior Greg Bourne. Junior Nick Stailey scored moments later for a 4-1 lead, the assist courtesy of junior Tate Rolland, and Rios scored his fourth and last goal to hand the Bobcats a 5-1 halftime cushion.
Four different Bobcats scored in the second half as they increased their lead to 11-2 at the final horn. Rios found Bourne for a goal just over two minutes into the third quarter for a 6-1 lead.
Senior Spencer Barnett scored at 10:53 and he later found freshman Keegan Colegrove for a goal at 5:23 as the lead swelled to 8-1. Rolland found Bourne for the final tally of the third with 2:10 to play.
Bridgewater found the net for the second and final time with 8:29 left in the fourth quarter, but junior Spenser Love (8:19) and Barnett (7:41) capped the evening with goals of their own for Frostburg.
Frostburg was able to dominate time of possession after winning 13-of-16 faceoffs. Sophomore Kyle Horak was a perfect 7-of-7, while junior Eric Geiser was 6-of-9. Junior Tom Kraemer needed just six saves for his 12
th victory.
Keeper Andrew Buss did his best to keep Bridgewater in the game with 19 saves, while Rob Simmons and Sean Nevin were credited with goals for the hosts.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it travels to York (Pa.) for a CAC matchup at 1:00 pm.
