#16 Frostburg Falls to #15 Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - The #16 ranked Frostburg State baseball team saw its 12-game winning streak snapped by #15 Randolph-Macon for its first loss of the season. The Yellow Jackets slipped by FSU 5-2 after a three-run eighth inning.

FSU (12-1) in search of its 13th victory of the season fell behind RMC (12-1) early as the Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead after the fourth inning. RMC plated its first run of the game in the bottom of the third as Michael Kroll scored on a grounder from Nate Meiners. Freshman starter Greg Scheinder got M Keeler to fly out to center to end the inning and limit the damage. Randolph-Macon tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth with a bases-loaded sac fly from Cole Migliornin to score Travis Lodge. With Yellow Jackets on second and third, Scheider caught Christian Sanderson looking to end the frame.

Frostburg finally found its way to the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with two runs on three hits to tie the game at 2-2. With junior Ian Shemer on third and senior Lane Farmer on second, junior Connor Cooper grounded out to second to bring around Shemer and advance Farmer to third. Junior JT Tipton singled to right with two out and two on to score Farmer and tie the game. The Yellow Jackets found their way out of the inning with a ground ball to short to end the frame.

The Yellow Jackets plated their final three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 5-2 lead, which would prove to be the game's final. RMC did so on four hits while stranding one runner.

The Bobcats looked like they were putting together a two-out rally after Tipton walked to load the bases, but the Yellow Jacket closer got his third out of the inning without allowing a run to preserve the win for RMC.

Schneider had a solid day on the mound for FSU and came away with a no-decision after tossing 7.1 innnings and allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks. The freshman struck out five. Junior Kyle McCormack suffered the loss for Frostburg after  just 0.1 inning of work, allowing two runs on two hits and one strikeout.

Senior Ricky Castro, Keeler and Farmer each collected a pair of hits for FSU.

The Bobcats look to start another winning streak as they travel to Marymount tomorrow for a Capital Athletic Conference game starting at 3:00 pm.
