FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored five-straight goals over a four-and-a-half minute stretch in the first half en route to a 12-6 victory over Marymount, Saturday.
The contest was the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both schools and Frostburg road impressive play from its starting lineup to its fourth-straight win. Eight different starters registered a point for the Bobcats, who were led in scoring by sophomore Megan Hart (3 goals).
In fact, all 30 shots attempted by Frostburg came from the starting lineup as it outshot the Saints (1-5, 0-1) 30-18. FSU also held a 17-11 advantage in ground balls and was 13-of-16 on clear attempts. The Bobcats caused 13 of Marymount's 19 turnovers and limited the visitors to just 10-for-20 on clears.
Despite Frostburg's statistical advantage, Marymount held a pair of early leads in the opening minutes of the first half. Steph Keane (28:30) and Taylor Johnson (26:38) sandwiched goals around an Emani Byrd (27:51) tally as the visitors led 2-1.
Frostburg started its 5-0 scoring jolt at 22:33 when sophomore Haley Hines scored on a free position. Two minutes later, senior Jessica Jones scored an unassisted tally for a 3-2 advantage and the Bobcats would never trail again.
Sophomore Molly Hart and Megan Hart scored at 18:31 and 18:03, respectively before senior Emily Walker ended the run with 5:44 to play in the half for a 6-2 Frostburg lead.
Marymount closed out the half with a goal at 4:20, but Frostburg countered with four of the first five second-half goals to put the game out of reach at 10-4.
Five different players captured two points for Frostburg including Jones (2 goals), Hines (1 goal/1 assist), Walker (2 goals), Molly Hart (2 goals) and sophomore Emani Byrd (1 goal/1 assist).
Senior Malory Brunett, the team's leading scorer in each of the last two games, scored one goal, but added seven caused turnovers, five ground balls and four draw controls. Sophomore Dylan Teitelbaum made eight saves in the win.
Abby Wescott led Marymount with one goal and two assists, while Keane scored twice. Tylar Abrams stopped 13 shots in net.
Frostburg State returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Meredith at 6:00 pm.
