WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Frostburg State University men's lacrosse team ran its record to 6-0 on the season with a 12-4 road victory over Lycoming, Wednesday.
Juniors Nick Stailey and Tate Rolland each registered four goals and an assist for the Bobcats as they become the first team in Division III to reach 6-0 this season.
Rolland (11:51) and Stailey (8:02) opened the scoring with two goals for Frostburg in the first quarter. Rios and sophomore Michael Kibler were credited with assists as FSU led 2-0.
The Warriors (0-5) quickly answered with back-to-back goals of their own to knot the contest at 2-2 with 4:30 left in the first.
However, Frostburg countered with the contest's next six goals for a commanding 8-2 cushion. Junior Spenser Love started the run with a tally with just 3:11 left in the first quarter, while senior Devin Colegrove capped the outburst in the third stanza with a goal off a feed from Rios at 13:17.
Rolland and Stailey closed the contest with a goal apiece in the fourth quarter for the 12-4 final.
Frostburg posted 32 shots and 32 ground balls on the afternoon and controlled much of the game's tempo by winning 18-of-20 face-offs. The Bobcats were also nearly perfect on clears (16-of-17).
Colegrove finished with two goals and one assist, while senior Chris Rios handed out three assists.
Junior Erik Geiser finished 11-of-12 on face-offs, while sophomore Kyle HHorak was 7-of-8. They combined for 11 ground balls. Junior keeper Tom Kraemer made seven saves in the cage for the Bobcats in 60 minutes of action.
Trevor Williams notched the only multi-point effort for the Warriors with two goals, while keeper Alex Wylly suffered the loss after allowing all 12 goals with 13 saves.
Frostburg opens Capital Athletic Conference play this Saturday when it travels to Marymount at 1:00 pm.
