FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team pulled to within one goal early in the second half, but McDaniel rebounded for a 17-8 victory at Bobcat Stadium, Saturday.
McDaniel (2-0) led by as many as four goals, 8-4, with just under a minute to play in the first half, when the Bobcats (0-2) seized momentum behind a 3-0 run. Senior Malory Brunett found the net with 1.5 seconds left in the first and sophomore Megan Hart (28:23) and freshman Courtney Ridenour (27:43) scored back-to-back goals to open up the second as Frostburg pulled to within 8-7.
The Green Terror recaptured the momentum and sealed the win by outscoring the hosts 9-1 over the final 26:55. McDaniel scored the game's next four goals after Frostburg pulled it to 8-7.
Sophomore Molly Hart ended the McDaniel run with her only goal of the contest with 20:44 left in the second half as FSU trailed 12-8.
However, McDaniel scored the game's final five goals for the win.
Despite the final score, Frostburg held a 32-30 edge in shots, but Green Terror keeper Lily Galzerano made 17 saves to help stifle the Bobcat attack. McDaniel also scored on 6-of-8 free position attempts.
Sophomore Charlotte Hines made her Frostburg debut by scoring the game's first goal less than five minutes into action for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Emani Byrd scored moments later to give Frostburg a 2-1 cushion and her second goal at 11:25 tied the game at 3-3. The Bobcats were unable to tie the game again.
Brunett and Byrd led the Bobcats with two goals each, while Megan Hart and Hines each had one goal and one assist. Sophomore Dylan Teitelbaum endured the loss in net for Frostburg.
Danielle Entrot led McDaniel in scoring with two goals and three assists, while Maggie Quinn finished with three goals and one assist. In all, 10 different players registered a point for the visitors.
Frostburg returns to action at Bridgewater on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
